Altogether, Hispanics are usually referring to people who speak Spanish or who are descendants of those from Spanish-speaking countries. Thus, Hispanic refers to the language that a person speaks or that their ancestors spoke. The Hispanic population is widely represented in the United States. According to the 2020 U.S. census report, as of July 1, 2019, the people of Hispanic origin, the nation’s largest ethnic or racial minority, constituted 18.5% of the nation’s total population.

Students and Teacher in Classroom

According to the most recent statistic of the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, Hispanic students have been increased significantly. Of the 16.6 million undergraduate students enrolled in fall 2018, 3.4 million were Hispanics compared to fall 2010 where the number was only 2.6 million. By projection, we can expect this number will continue to grow considerably.

To keep on moving in that path, Hispanic students should continue to take advantage of all funds that organizations are giving to them. Though, Hispanic students can get access to a wide range of scholarships. Many organizations and companies have made tremendous efforts to provide some significant funds to Hispanic and Latino students.

Most of the time, companies and organizations are giving away funds for colleges for two main reasons, either for students who cannot afford to go to college or students with great academic achievements. Hispanic students should pay close attention when applying for scholarships by the fact that certain scholarships aim for some specific categories.  However, there are no restrictions for Hispanic students to apply for other categories of scholarships, grants, loans, or financial aids
